A professional relationship between two people. The more experienced colleague (mentor) offers guidance, support and constructive criticism to the more junior colleague (mentee) to help them achieve their aspirations (for example, new position, skills or knowledge). Typically, the mentor will have direct experience of the role the mentee currently has or wishes to attain.
Over time the mentee should become increasingly self-directed, often up to a point where both parties meet their learning goals and decide to wind-down or evolve the relationship.
